The Institute for Justice, "a libertarian public interest
law firm," has just published a thorough study of how local, state,
and national cops abuse the civil asset-forfeiture laws.
What does that have to do with Tom Petters, the multi-billion-dollar
con man? The feds seized all his wealth by filing a civil case even
before he was charged with any crime. They can do the same to you.

"The Second Fraud," a documentary film investigating the allegedly corrupt handling of the Tom Petters Ponzi case in Minnesota, was produced in 2009 by Hillside Productions of Manassas, Virginia. A sixty-minute version of the film, edited for television, was booked for airing on the four major TV stations in Minneapolis in December 2009—only to have all four stations suddenly refuse to broadcast it. That is another story, about which I might have something to say on my Blog soon. Meanwhile, filmmaker Ryan Frost may be reached at rfrost@hillsideproductionsllc.com or 571-274-5077.

Citizens Against Unjust Statutes (CAUS) was founded in 2009 in Arlington,
Virginia, as "a non-profit national organization opposed to unjust
and unconstitutional government seizures of private property without
due process of law." Its executive director is Gary Nordlinger,
a famed public affairs consultant who has worked for hundreds of
public officials, associations, labor unions, and corporations in
twenty-eight countries. CAUS is a so-called "527"—an independent
political advocacy group under IRS Code 527.
